Partially enclosed hut circle settlement near Yellowmeade Farm

This scheduled monument comprises the remains of a partially enclosed settlement of stone hut circles, likely dating to the Bronze Age. The site sits on open moorland typical of Dartmoor's high ground, where such settlements were built to take advantage of grazing land and freshwater sources. The stone foundations of the huts, now low earthworks and rubble, once supported round dwellings with turf or thatch roofs. Two cairns nearby may relate to burial or territorial marking, practices common on the moor during prehistory.

A route marker stands on or near the site today, evidence of Dartmoor's long history of travel and navigation across this exposed landscape. Visiting means walking into an ancient working landscape that has changed little in its essential character. The stones underfoot tell of generations who chose to live here, farm stock, and mark the land with their dead.
