Kraps Ring is a scheduled monument comprising a cluster of stone hut circles set within a partially enclosed settlement. The site dates to the Bronze Age, when Dartmoor's higher ground supported scattered communities of herders and farmers. The characteristic stone rings visible today are the foundations of roundhouses, their walls built from moorland granite.
The partial enclosure that gives the site its name suggests some form of boundary or defence, though the moorland setting and the surviving structures tell of a landscape very different from today. A visit requires navigation across open moor, and the hut circles reward close inspection: you can read the building techniques and imagine the domestic life of communities who shaped this corner of Dartmoor thousands of years ago.
