Medieval farmstead near Cold East Cross

Historic England's scheduling record (list entry 1019604) describes a medieval farmstead on a gentle east-facing slope above the valley of the River Ashburn. It has at least four rectangular buildings. The southern is a longhouse, unusually built along the contour, 15 metres by 4.6 metres inside, marked by earthwork banks up to 0.8 metres high and terraced into the slope, with a gap in the east wall probably the original entrance. Against its north side is a rectangular structure 8 metres by 4 metres, also terraced into the hillside and probably a barn like the other small buildings. East of it is a slightly larger one, 10 metres by 4.2 metres, and a short way north the last is a rectangular hollow 6 metres by 3 metres with a bank on the south. It lies in the parish of Ashburton, about 1.7 km south of Rippon Tor and 2.3 km east of Buckland in the Moor.
