Lake Down cairnfield 810m ESE and 780m east of Lake Viaduct

Lake Down cairnfield is a Bronze Age burial ground spread across open moorland to the east of Lake Viaduct. The site consists of several cairns, stone-built mounds that once covered cremated remains and grave goods. These monuments are amongst the most common and enduring archaeological features of Dartmoor, marking the use of the high moor by Bronze Age communities over many centuries.
Today the cairns are visible as low stony humps in the grass and heather. The site sits within the broader landscape of prehistoric settlement and burial that characterises this part of Dartmoor, offering a sense of the deep time embedded in the moorland itself. The location is accessible to walkers exploring the open moor.
