Hut circles on Bonehill Down

Hut circles are the remains of roundhouses, typically dating to the Bronze Age. At Bonehill Down, a cluster of these stone foundations marks where families lived and worked on the high moor, probably between 1500 and 500 BC. The circular walls, some still clearly visible, once supported thatched roofs and housed both people and animals.
Walking among them today, you stand in a landscape largely unchanged since then. The moorland slopes away around you, offering views across Dartmoor's open granite terrain. These humble stone circles are windows into the lives of early farming communities who shaped and inhabited this corner of the moor for centuries.
