Hut circles and a length of enclosure wall

This scheduled monument preserves the remains of a stone hut circle settlement dating to the Bronze Age, when upland Dartmoor supported scattered communities of farmers and herders. The site consists of several hut circles, the characteristic round foundations of prehistoric dwellings, alongside a length of enclosure wall that may have served to contain stock or define territorial boundaries across the moorland.

Today the site appears as low stone structures and walls across open moor, easily walked but requiring some familiarity with Bronze Age archaeology to fully interpret. It forms part of the extensive prehistoric landscape of central Dartmoor, where similar settlements and field systems remain scattered across the high ground, testament to a time when the moor was more intensively settled than in later centuries.
