Hameldown Beacon barrow

Hameldown Beacon barrow is a Bronze Age burial mound, one of many scattered across Dartmoor's high ground. The barrow sits on open moorland at around 500 metres, in a landscape that has held meaning for people across thousands of years. From this elevated position, the mound would have been a visible marker in the ancient world, and today it remains part of the network of ceremonial and domestic sites that shaped the moor's character.
Visitors find an earthen mound in rough moorland, with wide views north towards Teign Valley and the margins of the moor. The site is a scheduled monument, protected for the archaeological record it holds. Walking here, you move through country where Bronze Age communities lived and buried their dead, and where the open moorland landscape itself is a kind of document of that deep past.
