Hameldown Beacon stands as a distinctive granite tor on the eastern side of Dartmoor, a natural high point that offers extensive views across the open moorland and far into the surrounding countryside. The granite outcrop has the characteristic weathered form of Dartmoor's peaks, with slabs and boulders worn by centuries of exposure to wind and weather.
The walk to Hameldown Beacon takes you across accessible moorland, and the approach rewards you with increasingly open views. From the summit, you can see across much of eastern Dartmoor and beyond the park boundaries to the lower lands of Devon. It is a straightforward destination for a moorland walk, particularly good when visibility is clear.
