Enclosure

This scheduled monument comprises a hut circle and associated enclosure situated on the open moorland north of Old Hill. The remains date to the Bronze Age, when Dartmoor supported scattered communities living in small, stone-built roundhouses. The enclosure likely served to contain livestock or mark out cultivated ground, while the hut circle is the footprint of a dwelling that once housed a family or small household.

Today the site survives as low stone banks and a shallow circular depression in the grass and heather. Like many such settlements dotted across the high moor, it offers a quiet testimony to the people who worked this landscape thousands of years ago, adapting to Dartmoor's challenging terrain to make a living from pastoral farming and the resources around them.
