Eight hut circles

Watern Oke is an unenclosed stone hut circle settlement on Dartmoor, where eight circular stone foundations and a shieling (a seasonal shelter for herding) remain visible across the moorland. These structures likely date to the Bronze Age, when scattered communities lived and worked on Dartmoor's high ground, moving seasonally to tend livestock and exploit the moor's resources.

Today the site sits openly on the moor, with no boundaries or visible paths connecting it to others. A visitor finds low stone rings and walls emerging from the heather and grass, quiet evidence of domestic life lived many centuries ago. It forms part of a broader pattern of prehistoric settlement that shaped Dartmoor's landscape.
