Cist south-west of Gutter Tor

This cist is a small stone burial chamber, likely built during the Bronze Age when Dartmoor was more densely settled. Such monuments were used to inter the cremated remains of the dead, often accompanied by grave goods. The cist itself consists of stone slabs forming a small rectangular box, sometimes covered and concealed beneath a mound of earth and rubble.
