This cairnfield is a scatter of Bronze Age burial mounds spread across the moorland northwest of Stoneyhurst. The individual cairns, built from loose stone, would have covered cremated remains and grave goods of people who lived on or used Dartmoor in the Bronze Age, roughly 4,000 years ago. Such sites are common across the moor, marking places that held significance for prehistoric communities.
Today the cairns are modest earthworks, sometimes eroded and partly overgrown, but still visible to those walking the open moor. The site sits in the working landscape of Dartmoor, where Bronze Age remains stand alongside moorland used for grazing and forestry. The cairnfield is a Scheduled Monument, protected for its archaeological importance and the light it sheds on Dartmoor's deep past.
