  • Rises: Raybarrow Pool, south of Cosdon
  • Flows to: the River Teign, through Shilley Pool, Throwleigh and Gidleigh Chase
  • Bridges: Blackaton Bridge (East), Grade II, list entry 1326053; Payne's Bridge

Crossing (A Hundred Years on Dartmoor, 1902, p. 132) says Blackaton Brook flows from Raybarrow Pool, south of Cosdon. The stream drops down the hill to Shilley Pool, then on towards Throwleigh and Gidleigh and into the Teign, where Wikipedia lists it as a left-bank tributary. Blackaton Bridge (East) is a low two-span granite bridge, probably 19th century, and Payne's Bridge, near Throwleigh common, is where Crossing's walkers halted with Cosdon above them in 1888.

In the Gems in a Granite Setting (1905, p. 56) Crossing describes Gidleigh Chase, about a mile and a half of wooded valley with granite masses, from near Scorhill Tor to the meeting of the Blackaton Brook and the Teign. His 1914 excursion 18 runs by Steeperton Track, Raybarrow Pool, the White Moor circle, Blackaton Brook and Cheriton Combe.
