Cosdon Hill Multiple Stone Rows

Grid ref: SX 6434 9159

Cosdon Hill's multiple stone rows are among Dartmoor's most atmospheric Bronze Age monuments. Two parallel lines of weathered stones march across the high moor, their alignment suggesting ritual or ceremonial significance lost to time. Standing among them, you sense the ancient builders' connection to this landscape—choosing this exposed ridge as if to anchor themselves to the moor itself.

The site rewards exploration on foot. Walk the rows at different times of day and the light transforms them; winter sun skims the stones at an angle that summer never reaches. Like many Dartmoor monuments, their true meaning remains elusive—whether processional ways, territorial markers, or something else entirely. That uncertainty is part of their power.
