Scorhill Stone Circle

Scorhill Stone Circle comprises roughly two dozen granite stones arranged in a ring on the high moorland south of Chagford. Dating to the Bronze Age, the monument stands as evidence of ceremonial or astronomical significance lost to time, its stones worn smooth by millennia of Dartmoor weather and wind.

The circle's appeal lies partly in its isolation—approached across rough moorland with few markers, it feels genuinely remote despite being within reach of nearby settlements. Whether the stones marked ritual gatherings, seasonal events, or celestial observations remains unknowable, but standing among them on the open moor leaves visitors with an unmediated sense of ancient purpose and the landscape's deep continuity.
