Black Hill

Black Hill stands on the central plateau of Dartmoor, a straightforward granite tor without dramatic rock formations or commanding presence. At 406 metres, it reaches the height of the moor itself rather than rising prominently above it. The walk here takes you across open moorland, typical of Dartmoor's rolling granite landscape, with views that stretch far across the high ground in all directions.

The tor's quiet character makes it a natural waypoint on longer moorland walks rather than a destination in itself. The approach is over springy turf and heather, with granite outcrops scattered across the surrounding terrain. On clear days the views extend to the distant edges of the moor and beyond. It is a place that rewards wandering rather than hurrying, and speaks to the understated appeal of Dartmoor's interior.
