Hut circle settlement

This scheduled monument preserves the remains of a prehistoric settlement clustered around stone hut circles, likely dating to the Bronze Age. The huts sit on the northern tip of Long Ridge, part of the extensive pattern of settlement that characterizes Dartmoor's upland landscape. Associated with the dwellings is an irregular field system, suggesting this was working land where people farmed, herded stock, and managed the moorland around their homes.

Today the site is marked by stone foundations and rubble scattered across the slope. These ruins are typical of Dartmoor's archaeological heritage, where Bronze Age and later communities left their imprint on the landscape through hut circles, cairns, and field walls that still define the moor's character. The site rewards patient looking and offers insight into how people lived and used this high ground in prehistory.
