This small stone hut circle is one of several scattered across the Watern Oke settlement, an unenclosed Bronze Age community that once occupied this exposed moorland. The foundations of the circular dwelling remain visible, built from rough moorland stone and positioned among others of similar age and character.
The settlement reflects how people adapted to life on high Dartmoor in prehistory, clustering their homes without formal defensive boundaries. Walking here today, you can read the landscape as those early inhabitants knew it: open moor, grazing land, and stone enough to build from underfoot. The site is a scheduled monument, protected for its archaeological importance.
