This scheduled monument is a palimpsest of Dartmoor's working past. The site holds evidence of tin extraction, probably from the medieval period onwards, alongside prehistoric and later field systems, settlements and a stone alignment. Cairns suggest Bronze Age use of this upland landscape. The warren indicates later management for rabbit farming, a common practice on Dartmoor's margins.
Today the earthworks and stone features lie scattered across moorland, telling the story of how communities have worked and lived on Dartmoor across centuries. It is a place to read the moor's history in its contours and stones, best explored on foot with time to observe the overlapping traces of different periods.
