Stone setting (retaining kerb of a cairn) near Brisworthy Plantation

This is a Bronze Age cairn, marked today by its retaining kerb of stones. The kerb once held in place a mound of earth and smaller stones, forming a burial monument typical of Dartmoor's prehistoric landscape. Such cairns are scattered across the moor, built over thousands of years as ritual and burial places for local communities.

Little remains visible except the ring of stones, weathered by millennia on open moorland. Standing here, you can sense the age of the place and its position within the wider pattern of Bronze Age settlement and ceremony that shaped Dartmoor.
