Stone hut circle settlement at Higher Tor

Devon

This scheduled monument consists of a cluster of hut circles, the remains of stone-built roundhouses that once formed a Bronze Age settlement on Dartmoor's open moorland. The circular foundations and low stone walls that survive today are typical of the domestic dwellings that housed farming communities across the moor during the prehistoric period.

Visitors will find the site set into the moorland landscape as a scatter of archaeological features, best understood on the ground where their circular forms and relationship to one another become apparent. The settlement reflects Dartmoor's long history of human habitation and the enduring marks that Bronze Age people left upon the landscape they farmed.
