Steeperton Tor
Devon
Steeperton Tor rises from a narrow peninsula of high moorland in the heart of north Dartmoor, surrounded by water on three sides. The River Taw flanks it to the west and Steeperton Brook to the east, making most approaches a lung-busting climb except from the south. The tor itself forms a rock ridge with three distinct piles of granite, the southern outcrop known as Eagle Rock. The views across Taw Plain and Taw Marsh below are impressive, stretching to Yes Tor and High Willhays. A military hut and flagpole now stand at the summit, marking the start of the Okehampton firing range.
