This scheduled monument preserves the traces of a prehistoric settlement in the upland terrain between Two Bridges and Blackbrook River. The site consists of scattered stone foundations, cairns and earthwork features typical of Bronze Age occupation on Dartmoor, when communities farmed and herded across the open moor.
Today the remains are subtle, requiring attention to read the landscape. Visiting means walking across moorland where the archaeological evidence lies close to the ground, surrounded by the same rolling granite country that these early inhabitants knew. The site is part of Dartmoor's rich scatter of prehistoric settlement sites, each one a record of how people lived and worked on the moor thousands of years ago.
