Sanduck Cross: a wayside cross on the north side of a minor road 45m south west of Sanduck Farm

Barnecourt, Moretonhampstead, Devon

Grid ref: SX 7681 8361

Sanduck Cross is a wayside cross positioned on the north side of a minor road, a short distance south west of Sanduck Farm. Like many of Dartmoor's wayside crosses, it likely dates to the medieval period, when such markers served practical purposes for travellers crossing the open moor. These simple stone crosses provided landmarks and waypoints on routes that connected scattered settlements and farms.

Today the cross stands much as it has for centuries, a quiet witness to the landscape and the roads that wind through it. Visitors exploring the quiet lanes and footpaths of northern Dartmoor will find it a modest but genuine reminder of medieval travel and the enduring patterns of movement across the moor.
