This scheduled monument is a platform cairn, a characteristic Bronze Age structure found across Dartmoor. The platform, built from stone, would originally have supported a burial chamber or ritual deposit. Located on the open moorland northwest of Fordsland Ledge, it sits within a landscape densely occupied during the Bronze Age, roughly 4,000 years ago.
Today the site is visible as a low stone platform among the rough moorland vegetation. Walking here you encounter it as Bronze Age people might have, as a marker in open country with wide views across Dartmoor. The cairn survives as evidence of a period when the high moor was actively used and shaped by its inhabitants for burial, ceremony and commemoration.
