Pillow mound near Little Mis Tor

Historic England's scheduling record (list entry 1014676) describes a pillow mound on the edge of a tin streamwork in a shallow valley between Little Mis Tor and Over Tor, part of Merrivale Warren. The warren has at least 27 pillow mounds on the lower slopes of Great Mis Tor, Little Mis Tor and Over Tor. Because of their unusual oval shape and the nearby medieval settlement, many of them may be medieval. Most lie in Merrivale Newtake, but this one is on open moorland just outside the wall. It lies in the parish of Dartmoor Forest.

The mound is a flat-topped oval of soil and stone 6.5 metres long, 4 metres wide and 0.6 metres high, with a ditch 2 metres wide and 0.2 metres deep round it from which it was dug. A circular earthwork 5 metres to the east is a Second World War mortar emplacement used for training and is not part of the scheduling.
