Lydford Gorge (NT)

Lydford Gorge is a striking natural feature carved by the River Lyd as it cuts through moorland near Tavistock. The gorge's most dramatic section is the 30-metre waterfall that cascades into the Devil's Cauldron, a swirling pool surrounded by steep rock walls. The National Trust manages the site with two main walking routes—the Waterfall Trail and the Devil's Cauldron Trail—allowing visitors to explore different sections of this impressive landscape.

The site is open seasonally with visitor facilities including tea-rooms, car parks, and a second-hand bookshop. Admission is free for National Trust members; otherwise charges apply. Note that the gorge occasionally closes due to high winds or flooding, so it's worth checking ahead. Long-term path maintenance work may affect access to certain sections.
