Huts and fields on Hayne Down

Historic England's scheduling record (list entry 1002497) describes a small stone hut circle settlement and part of its field system on a south-facing slope overlooking Hound Tor. There are at least three hut circles, with upright-stone walls standing up to 1.7 metres high around inner areas 7 to 8.5 metres across. At least two have visible doorways. It lies in the parish of Manaton, about 1.2 km south-east of Cripdon Down Tor and 1.6 km south-west of Manaton.

The field system has at least four linked fields and an east to west droveway, with boundaries of stone and rubble lynchetted banks. More remains lie to the north but are not protected, because they have not been formally assessed.

Hayne Down is also the hill where Bowerman's Nose stands. An Exploration of Dartmoor describes it as a solitary pile of granite rising from the clatters to nearly forty feet.
