Huts and fields NE of Rippon Tor

Northeast of Rippon Tor lie the remains of huts and field systems dating to the Bronze Age, when people lived and farmed on Dartmoor's higher ground. The site shows how communities adapted to the moorland landscape, building roundhouses and dividing the land into small enclosed fields for cultivation and stock management.
Today the earthworks are subtle but legible to those who know what to look for: low stone walls marking ancient boundaries, and circular depressions where houses once stood. The site sits within the wider archaeological palimpsest of the moor, where Bronze Age settlement, medieval tin working, and later land use have all left their marks on the landscape.
