Hut circle on Wigford Down

This hut circle on Wigford Down is the remains of a Bronze Age dwelling, likely built between 2000 and 500 BC when the Dartmoor uplands supported scattered pastoral communities. The circular stone foundation marks where a roundhouse once stood, its form adapted to the moorland environment and the building practices of its time.

Today the site is a low earthwork and stone ring, easily missed among the heather and grass of the open moor. It sits within a landscape still shaped by ancient land use, and visiting it offers a quiet sense of continuity with those who lived and herded on Dartmoor thousands of years ago.
