Holwell Rocks

Devon

Holwell Rocks is a small tor of two main granite outcrops sitting on Holwell Down, right beside the minor road between Hound Tor car park and Haresfoot Cross. William Crossing named it in the early 20th century; Eric Hemery later identified the eastern pile as Big Rock and first recorded a logan stone on the western pile. At around 392 metres, it offers views across to Haytor and down Holwell Lawn, which displays outstanding bluebells in late spring. Most Dartmoor visitors pass it without noticing, making it a quiet spot away from the crowds that gather on nearby Hound Tor.
