Great Nodden

Great Nodden stands as a low granite tor in the heart of Dartmoor, a working moorland landscape rather than a dramatic destination. At 437 metres, it is unremarkable in height, but its position on the open moor gives it a solid presence. The tor itself is modest: weathered granite outcrops that catch the light and anchor the surrounding moorland visually.

The walk here takes you across typical central Dartmoor terrain, through heather and grass with views across to higher tors. This is country for walkers who value the subtlety of the moor itself over headline peaks. In clear conditions, the moorland rolls away in all directions, and you feel the reach of Dartmoor's upland plateau. Great Nodden makes a natural waypoint or rest on longer moorland walks, rather than a destination in itself.
