Five hut circles near Yealm Steps

This cluster of five stone hut circles forms part of a much larger Bronze Age settlement scattered across this section of Dartmoor. The circular foundations, built from local stone, are the remains of domestic dwellings that once housed families who herded stock and worked the moorland. Dating to the later prehistoric period, these huts represent a way of life adapted to Dartmoor's upland terrain and climate.

Today the site is marked by stone rubble and circular depressions in the turf. Visiting requires navigation across open moorland near Yealm Steps. The settlement's survival, protected as a Scheduled Monument, speaks to Dartmoor's role as a landscape where Bronze Age communities left their mark on both the land and the archaeological record.
