Dovecote near Pridhamsleigh

This scheduled monument is the archaeological trace of a dovecote, a structure that once stood north of Pridhamsleigh farmstead. Dovecotes were valuable buildings in the medieval and early modern period, keeping pigeons for meat and eggs, and their presence marked a farm of some status and resources. The site lies in the pastoral landscape between the upland moor and the more sheltered valleys to the south.

Today, what remains are earthworks and stones scattered across the moorland edge, speaking to centuries of agricultural life on Dartmoor. The dovecote's location, close to a working farm, shows how settlement and farming practice shaped this landscape over generations.
