Circular enclosure 290m north of Great Parford

This circular enclosure, located 290 metres north of Great Parford, is a Bronze Age monument and a scheduled ancient monument. The earthwork represents the remains of a prehistoric settlement, one of many scattered across Dartmoor's high ground. Such enclosures typically served as settlements or livestock compounds, their circular form efficient for defence and the management of stock.
Today the site is visible as a low earthwork in the moorland landscape. Like many Dartmoor monuments, it speaks to the intensive use of the moor in prehistory, when communities were far more numerous on these heights than in later periods. The location offers a sense of how Bronze Age people understood and inhabited this landscape.
