Church of St Mary the Virgin

Devon

This Grade I listed church is a parish church of medieval origin, built to serve the community around it. Like many churches on and near Dartmoor, it reflects centuries of local worship and stands as a physical record of settlement patterns and faith across the moor's edges.

Today the building remains in the landscape much as it has for generations, constructed in the materials and style of its period. Visitors will find a working parish church, a place to understand both the religious and social history of Dartmoor's communities, and evidence of how the moor's people have lived and gathered.
