Whaleback Boulder

Whaleback Boulder is a solitary granite outcrop on the open moor between Postbridge and the high ground to the south. Its smooth, rounded form gives the rock its distinctive name, a shape worn by weathering and time into something that catches the eye across the surrounding heathland.

The boulder sits in accessible walking country, approachable from several directions across the moor. It offers a modest viewpoint over the central plateau and serves as a good landmark or turning point on a moorland walk, typical of the scattered granite features that punctuate Dartmoor's landscape.
