Wall with Gateway and Attached Cottage Attached to South West of Walreddon Manor

Devon

This Grade II* listed structure comprises a substantial stone gateway and an attached cottage built against the south west side of Walreddon Manor. The gateway and cottage form part of the manorial complex and reflect the practical arrangements of a working farmstead, where domestic and agricultural spaces were closely integrated into the manor's layout.

The stonework and form speak to Dartmoor's building traditions, where sturdy construction and functional design were essential for life on the moor. The cottage and gateway survive as physical evidence of how manor houses functioned as centers of both domestic life and rural economy, with dependent structures clustering around the main building.
