Two hut circles N of Lower Blackaton

These two hut circles are the remains of Bronze Age dwellings, likely dating to the second millennium BC when Dartmoor supported a dispersed farming population. The circular stone foundations would once have held timber-framed roundhouses, their forms still legible in the moorland turf today. They sit within a landscape thick with prehistoric evidence: cairns, field systems and other settlements that speak to an era when the high moor was actively managed and inhabited.
Like many of Dartmoor's hut circles, these structures offer a tangible connection to the people who lived and worked on the moor thousands of years ago. Their location north of Lower Blackaton places them within a wider pattern of Bronze Age settlement that clusters across the granite plateaux.
