The Church House

Tom and Tina are a husband and wife team who are passionate about the hospitality industry, and are the current guardians of The Church House Inn.

The Church House Inn was originally built in 1329 as a Devon Longhouse to accommodate the stonemasons building the adjacent church. In the 1400s it was a retreat for clergy and monks from Buckfast Abbey, so an upper floor was added to the building to provide board and lodgings plus ales of course for themselves!

It is said that Oliver Cromwell stayed here whilst stabling his horse during the Civil war. If you look up through the rafters in the stable bar you will see a door that he supposedly used as an escape route.
The main room has a beautiful internal oak screen fitted in around 1530 and also has a long curved bench-seat made of elm, added in the 18th century. It is known as the Kingsley Room after the author
Charles Kingsley, whose birthplace was the nearby Vicarage.

Three generations of The Hillman family warmly welcome you to The Church house Inn where you will find local real ales, cider and lager, freshly cooked meals and friendly staff.

Recently refurbished en-suite accommodation within a family-run inn. With Dartmoor National Park on our doorstep, The Church House Inn is a popular rest stop for walkers of The Two Moors Way which passes through Holne connecting Ivybridge to Lynmouth in North Devon!

Our selection of rooms include free Wi-Fi, a flat screen TV, hair dryer, towels, toiletries and complimentary refreshments. Shared use of guest kitchen facilities including microwave, toaster, kettle and fridge. You should have everything you need for a comfortable stay.
