1st Tavistock Scout Group has been running since 1909 from their Scout Hut in the heart of Tavistock. With around 80 young people across Squirrel, Beaver, Cub and Scout sections, the group emphasises outdoor skills and adventure—taking full advantage of their location within walking distance of Dartmoor. Members work towards hiking proficiency, navigation, Duke of Edinburgh expeditions and Ten Tors competitions as they progress.
The group relies on trained volunteers to deliver their programme of Challenge Awards and Chief Scout's Awards. If you're interested in getting involved, either as a young person or as a volunteer leader, contact Group Lead Jo Darby. Volunteering opportunities include practical skills training, leadership development, and helping young people build confidence and resilience.
