Sue Viccars

Sue Viccars is a freelance outdoor writer, editor and photographer based in Devon. She studied geography and archaeology at Exeter University before working for a London map publisher, then joining David and Charles Publishers in Newton Abbot as commissioning editor for all outdoor, equestrian and countryside subjects. She went freelance in 2000 and has since written or contributed to around 20 books, editing dozens more, with a focus on southwest England.

Her publications include the Cicerone Press guides to the Two Moors Way and Walking the Dartmoor Way, as well as numerous Pathfinder and AA walking guides covering Devon, Cornwall, Exmoor and beyond. She was co-owner and editor of Dartmoor Magazine from 2008 to 2024, and has written the walks feature for Exmoor the Country Magazine since 2008. She is also Information Officer for the Two Moors Way Association.

Sue is a long-standing member of the Outdoor Writers and Photographers Guild, serving on its committee and as Awards Officer from 2025. She is a member of the Dartmoor Society Executive Committee and its Newsletter Editor from 2026, and sits on the Dartmoor Way steering group. Having lived on Dartmoor for over 40 years, she moved to Morchard Bishop in Mid Devon in March 2025, close to the Two Moors Way.
