Hut circle near Ger Tor

This stone hut circle stands on open moorland north-east of Ger Tor, a remnant of Bronze Age settlement on Dartmoor. The circular stone foundations mark where a roundhouse once stood, part of a landscape intensively occupied and farmed during the later Bronze Age when the climate was warmer and the moor more extensively used for grazing and cultivation.

Today the site appears as a ring of stones in the heather and grass, modest but distinctive when you reach it. It sits among other archaeological traces scattered across this stretch of the moor, testament to how densely the Bronze Age people settled Dartmoor. The monument is scheduled, recognising its importance to understanding how people lived and worked on the moor thousands of years ago.
