Stone hut circle 600m south-east of Roos Tor

This is a stone hut circle, one of many Bronze Age domestic structures scattered across Dartmoor's high ground. Dating from the second millennium BC, such circles mark the sites of roundhouses where families lived, farmed and herded animals on the moor. The remains consist of a low circular bank of stones, the foundation of a dwelling whose superstructure of wood, turf and thatch has long since vanished.

Located south-east of Roos Tor on open moorland, the hut circle sits within a broader pattern of prehistoric settlement visible across this part of Dartmoor. Walking the moor here, you encounter the layered past: not a single monument, but evidence of how people inhabited and shaped this landscape thousands of years ago. The stone outline is modest, but the view outward across the moor speaks to why they chose this place.
