Hut circle 530m ESE of Nodden Gate

This stone hut circle sits isolated on the moor some 530 metres east-south-east of Nodden Gate, one dwelling among a Bronze Age settlement that once spread across this moorland. The remains consist of a circular stone foundation, the base of a home built and occupied during the later prehistoric period when Dartmoor supported a much larger population than it does today.

Today the hut circle sits in open moorland where the landscape has changed little in character since those ancient times. Visiting means walking the moor itself and reading the shape of the land, finding this modest ruin among the grass and heather. It is one of hundreds of such circles scattered across Dartmoor, evidence of how thoroughly the high moor was once inhabited.
