South Devon and South Cornwall: With a Full Description of Dartmoor and the Isles of Scilly
1884 · Dulau & Co.
South Devon and South Cornwall was one of the Thorough Guides, the guidebook series edited by M. J. B. Baddeley and Charles Slegg Ward and published in London by Dulau & Co. It was compiled by Ward and Baddeley, and its title page promises a full description of Dartmoor and the Isles of Scilly.
The Dartmoor chapters in the ninth edition cover South Dartmoor (Ashburton to Tavistock and Plymouth) and North Dartmoor (Exeter to Okehampton and Tavistock), with excursions from Chagford and separate sections on the Gidleigh and Merrivale antiquities. The guide also picks out the single-slab clapper bridge across the Walla Brook near its junction with the North Teign.
The first edition appeared in 1884 and the guide was revised many times. The editions linked below are the 1889 and 1902 editions from Dulau and a ninth edition, revised, from Ward, Lock & Co., which lists 26 maps and plans.
