This scheduled monument is a pillow mound, an artificial earthwork created to support rabbit warrens during the medieval period. Pillow mounds are long, low, rounded ridges built above the surrounding ground to provide dry breeding habitat for rabbits, which were farmed as a valuable source of meat and fur. They are scattered across moorland and agricultural land throughout Devon and beyond.
On Langstone Moor, this mound sits within the open moorland landscape south east of White Tor. Like other scheduled monuments on Dartmoor, it is a quiet reminder of how the moor has been worked and managed by people for centuries. The site is best found on foot, and visitors should expect moorland terrain.
