Hut circle settlement on Dendles Waste

Historic England's scheduling record (list entry 1002524) describes an unenclosed stone hut circle settlement on a south-facing slope on the eastern side of the valley of Broadall Lake. The Penn Moor Reave, built into the later moorland boundary wall, bounds it on the north. It survives as 23 stone hut circles or hut platforms, with a few unconnected short stretches of boundary bank. It lies in the parish of Cornwood, about 1.9 km north-east of Rook Tor.

Four of the huts are attached to the reave, a number are submerged in peat, and two lie away from the main group. The walls are mostly single faced upright stones about 0.7 metres wide and 0.5 metres high, and the hut interiors are from 4.5 to 9 metres across. Entrances mostly face south-east, several doorways seem to be marked by standing stone jambs, and one hut has an entrance porch. The huts are mostly terraced into the slope and have level floors. A further settlement to the west is scheduled separately.
