The concluding volume of Trevena's trilogy of Dartmoor novels, following Furze the Cruel (1907) and Heather (1908). In his introduction to the trilogy, Trevena wrote that "the granite is worn away imperceptibly by the rain" - representing strength enduring against slow erosion, as furze represented cruelty and heather endurance. Published in London by Alston Rivers in 1909.
