Furze Tor

Furze Tor is a small but distinct granite peak rising from the open moor in the heart of Dartmoor. The tor itself is a neat cluster of weathered granite outcrops, characteristic of the landscape, offering a focal point on what is otherwise gently undulating terrain. At 319 metres, it is not among Dartmoor's highest points, but its position and exposure give it a genuine sense of place.
The approach is across typical moorland, with heather, grass and scattered boulders underfoot. The surrounding country opens out in all directions, allowing walkers to read the contours and features of central Dartmoor. It is a straightforward destination for a half day's walking, and the kind of modest tor that reveals the moor's quiet character to those who take time to reach it.
